Web Hosting Question

February 17th, 2009 | Tags:

A quick note. I am back from the AAPT meeting in Chicago. My first surprise was from my hosting company (lunarpages). They said that I had once again gone over my CPU usage for my site. I am really not sure why and I can’t really see my CPU usage. Anyway, the short story is that I either have to upgrade my service or move to another hosting company. Does anyone have a hosting company they could recommend? I will probably just stay with lunarpages because I don’t have time to mess around with moving.

Another note, I am going to give a few summary posts of some of the awesome (or potentially awesome) things I saw at AAPT.

I gave you many suggestions, yet you now ask complete strangers….sniff. Now I feel bad.

    Dear Neil,

I posted this before your message. However it was VERY useful advice. I will add it here in case others find it useful. Neil first gave me this helpful link:

He also suggested I look at eAccelerator, x-cache, or memcache to help speed up php. Fine suggestions.

Well, really I was talking about the VPS hosting provider suggestions. But I now see my mistake, and I hope you forgive my thoughtless attack.

I’ve been a happy customer of MediaTemple (FYI: I’m the referral on that link) for many years now. They’ve always been really helpful and responsive, the kind of customer service you want from a company that’s hosting something important to you. There are lots of discount codes for their regular pricing if you look around…

I’m obviously woefully behind on my blog reading, but I highly recommend Bluehost. They have no space limits and if you sign up for a few years you get a really great pricing deal. Lots of plug-and-play options. If you do go with them, go to my blog and use the link there (I get a commission on sales from there, but I really wouldn’t plug them if I didn’t like them). That said, I don’t know what CPU usage has to do with it…
